Conscience, Lost & Found

Conscience, Lost & Found

The Voice of My Soul

“...emotionally sympathetic, intellectually sophisticated, but all the while, utterly accessible.”

Douglas L. Berger of the Institute for Philosophy at Leiden University, The Netherlands

As a young child, I chose something that silenced my conscience. Consequently, I spent the next five decades searching for that presence, following clues through philosophy, religion, psychology, and personal experience. Nothing made sense until I started to compare writings that traditional societies explored long ago. Conscience, Lost & Found is the story of that quest. The discovery that conscience is not the teaching of any one faith or ideology.

Photo of RLBerger

R. L. Berger spent seventeen years in public service, first as a U.S. Army intelligence analyst and counterintelligence supervisor for seven years, and later as a Motor Carrier Inspector for the North Dakota Highway Patrol for ten years. Those careers trained him to read people, discern truth from fiction, and find what hides beneath the surface. Skills he has spent the last five decades applying to the most important investigation of his life: the search for conscience. Now retired, he lives in North Dakota, where he devotes much of his time to writing.
